Wallpaper makes a big comeback but often our homes are left with wallpaper that is too customised to be a selling benefit. To get your house sold faster, removing wallpaper and adding a fresh coat of paint will be a real benefit.
Do you dread even getting the wallpaper stripped off in a room in your house? Not to be afraid, most new wallpaper can be stripped, meaning it will easily peel off leaving behind only the glue. Before you start to see how difficult the job will be, try a small area.
Here's how to remove removable wallpaper:
Step 1: Use hot water on a sponge to soften the paste beneath the wallpaper when necessary.
Step 2: Use a spatula with 6 "paint to scrape off the paper, removing as much as possible.
Step 3: Rinse off the walls with 1 cup of white vinegar mixed with 1 gallon of water (3.8 L or 16 cups);
If your test proves the paper is the non-strippable old-fashioned type, follow these steps:
Phase 1: Mix 3 gallons of very hot water (11.4 L or 48 cups), 1 bottle of wallpaper remover (enzyme-based), 1/4 cup of liquid fabric softener, and 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
Step 2: Use a paint roller to roll the solution over the wallpaper starting from the bottom and working up. Do this one area at a time. Repeat the process twice once all the walls have been completed. If the wallpaper is vinyl or water-resistant, you will need to poke holes into it using a wallpaper scorer to allow the mixture to reach the glue. Wait 15 minutes.
Step 3: Using a 6 "spatula of paint, scrape the paper off the walls from where you started applying the solution. Act from the bottom up on every wallpaper line.
Step 4: Roll the walls with the solution to remove any remaining glue or paper, using a sponge and very hot water.
Step 5: Rinse off the walls with 1 cup of white vinegar mixed with 1 gallon of water (3.8 L or 16 cups);
These measures will help you get rid of the wallpaper, make it easier to sell easily, and make you work faster on decorating your new home.
